After you successfully change your office Computer (and therefore Network) password, if you have a Township laptop, you must take action to synchronize that change on your Laptop. In addition, if you have an Outlook email client installed on your phone and configured to access your Township Outlook account, you must take action to synchronize that password as well.
Resynching your Laptop Password
If you have your Laptop in the office, you can simply plug it into the Township network and then boot up the machine. Use your new password that you just recently changed on your office Computer. Once you have logged in at least once using the new password, your laptop will remember that new password when you boot it up without a network connection, i.e., when you are working remotely.
If your Laptop is at home, you can resynchronize the password after changing the password on your office Computer by following these steps:
-
Boot up your Laptop and log in using your OLD password
-
Connect to VPN, using your userid and the NEW password (old password will not work here). Remember to authorize the VPN session by responding to the pushed message to your phone's DUO application).
-
While connected to VPN, lock your Laptop via CTL+ALT+DEL and Lock option, or use the Windows Logo key
and the L key (simultaneously) to locak your Laptop. At that point your new password will be saved on your Laptop.
-
Unlock your laptop using your NEW password.
-
Either continue to do work, or disconnect from VPN and shut down as usual.
Resynching your Cell Phone Outlook Application Password
If you use Outlook application on a cellphone to read/send Township email, you must change the password for your account within that application within a few hours of changing your password on your Township office computer. Otherwise, your phone will continually attempt to log into Outlook with the old password, causing your Windows account to lock (which will impact your ability to access anything on your computer.
Follow these steps to update your Outlook password on your cellphone.
- Start the Outlook application on your cellphone.
- Tapon the Menu icon in the upper left corner (to the left of the Inbox folder title.
- Tap on the GEAR icon at the bottom left to open the Settings menu.
- Tap on the email account, e.g., yourname@sbtnj.net or yourname@sbpdnj.net.
- You should be prompted to enter your password at this point. Put in your new password.
